Sonic Shower
Interactive Installation / Sonification
Sonic Shower is an interactive sound installation. The installation creates a playful experience by converting a classic wall-mounted standing multi-shower system into loudspeakers and MIDI controllers that generate sound using a Max patcher. This artwork relates to Velasco’s research on distinguishing water temperature by its sound and the use of sound waves to cleanse the body as depicted in the science-fiction series StarTrek. In addition, Sonic Shower is a speculative design that imagines a dystopian future where individuals, confronted with severe waters carcity, employ technology to replicate the shower experience for psychological solace.
